    - Significance: W. A. Young and Sons Foundry and Machine Shop is a well-preserved example of a local machine shop that served the industrial and personal needs of its surrounding area. It represents a transition between the village blacksmith's shop and mass produced and marketed machine parts. This is one of the earliest US foundry-machine shops remaining in operation and one of the few water powered. It was founded by Samuel N. Knight () to manufacture machinery for the gold mines of the Mother Lode region. Knight was one of several inventors experimenting with impulse turbines to exploit the area's abundant high-head water power for driving hoists, ore .

The 7 books were the series on the shop and the 8th was the injection mold plastic one. I hope to do some work with that someday. Perhaps winding some bobbins for my coils.

Anyway, I felt confident enough from the info I have gleaned on the internet, to create my own crucible and foundry; even though my books have not yet arrived. Tons of great vintage projects – “Our goal is to preserve the inspired DIY spirit of the free project reprints cover farm machines, the woodshop, machine shop, boats, archery and more. These vintage plans come from a half-century ago when do-it-yourself enthusiasts turned wood, metal and old motors into useful workhorses, functional tools, and toys.

I enjoy doing "small" projects at home, BUT the "day job" is at a very large machine shop where i oversee over a dozen projects a day. this is just a SUPER quick tour of just the bigger jobs in. Сool parts for cool project. CNC is nice but it kills the old school machinists, before if you wanted to become a turner that you had to learn a lot of years, after CNC became more accessible things have changed.

I've seen courses for CNC machine operators, that lasted only 3 months, after which the person is considered to be certified. In this film, you have the opportunity to look in as Dave and Vince Gingery discuss the many benefits of adding a foundry to the home workshop, and how the home foundry was used to form the basis for building the complete machine shop series of projects.

From generic publications to machine-specific manuals, the choice is nearly endless and selecting a good book can be tricky.

We decided to ease up your selection by putting together a list of what we think are the best machining-related publications available, a collection of manuals, books, and textbooks that should be found in any machine shop. The first book in the series described the construction and use of a charcoal foundry for casting aluminum parts.

Mastery of the aluminum casting process was essential to completing all the other projects in the series (like making your own lathe and milling machine).• Some project items are not available commercially, making this book extremely valuable for workshop owners Milling for Home Machinists is a project-based course that provides a complete introduction to milling and the use of the milling machine.

It assumes no prior knowledge and works through the process of using a home shop mill. Here are things you can build, along with shop tips and wisdom from the club's members and other contributors.
